Introduction
Welcome to Week 20 of 2025!
This week, I’m going to be a little less prescriptive than I have been in the past. This week isn’t too difficult if you’re familiar with some of Sigma’s long-standing features, like table groupings and lineage. I believe in you!
You are going to learn to use a Top N filter with a color, while still only showing a true Top N. If you get stuck, check out Matt from Sigma’s article in the Sigma Community for a good tutorial.

Note: You will only have view access to WOW Workbooks, Folders, and Workspaces, not edit access. Please create your WOW Workbooks under “My Documents.” We suggest creating a folder to organize all your workbooks.
Requirements
- Use the Top 1000 Spotify Tracks data model:Workspaces / Workout Wednesday / 2025 / 2025W20 – Can you find the most popular?
- Metrics you will need:
- Total Popularity
- Tracks
- Duration
- Avg Duration
- Total Duration Text
- Metrics you will need:
- Your final workbook should display only these elements:
- A horizontal bar graph showing Most Popular Albums
- Y-Axis: Album sorted by Total Popularity
- X-Axis: Total Popularity
- Color: Artist
- Tooltip: Tracks
- A donut chart showing Duration by Artist
- Color: Artist sorted by Duration
- Value: Duration
- Donut Hole: Avg Duration, specifying that the avg is in minutes
- Tooltip: Total Duration (in Text) and Tracks
- Sync the colors between these two charts automatically
- Hint: Use a legend control
- Visible Controls:
- Total Popularity (Top N)
- Release Date picker
- Artist Tracks range slider: Allow users to specify the number of tracks an artist has in the top 1000 dataset in order to be included in the Top N calculation
- A horizontal bar graph showing Most Popular Albums
- Finishing Touches
- Give the dashboard a descriptive title
- Arrange your elements into a cohesive dashboard
- Update your workbook’s settings to give it a more personalized flair
- Tips
- On your hidden data sheet, use groupings and intermediary table(s) to get your controls to behave as expected.
