Introduction
Welcome back to Workout Wednesday! This week we’re celebrating Earth Day (April 22) with a design challenge. You can do whatever your designer heart desires with this challenge. I’ve provided a sample, but this is just to get your creative juices flowing. Whatever you do, ensure that your design is accessible and that you’re emphasizing the message you’d like readers to see.
Requirements
Get and transform data
- Use the earthday.org fact sheet as your data source. I used reforestation, but feel free to use any data that interests you.
- Bring the data into Power BI however you like. I used the enter data feature and added a few additional columns that I thought I might need in my design, including:
- sentiment (positive, negative, or neutral)
- sort order
- column containing only the figure in each statement
Create visuals
- Create a background image using a tool of choice. I used PowerPoint.
- Add data to the canvas using visuals of choice.
- Add a title and any other design elements that you’d like
- Ensure that all visuals meet the minimum standards of having alt text, that the tab order in your report makes sense, and that your color choices meet the minimum contrast standards.
- As always, mix up the design in any way you see fit! This should be fun!
Dataset
This week’s data comes straight from the earthday.org website.
