2025 Week 40 | Power BI: Announcing the DataViz World Champion

Introduction

Workout Wednesday crew! Did you know that Microsoft is now hosting a Dataviz World Championships every year, twice a year? The premise is that you create a report for a preliminary round (or rounds), and 4 finalists are then selected to compete live on-stage at the Fabric Community Conference (FabCon).

I just returned from FabCon Vienna, where I got to watch four amazing viz whiz’s compete live! It was exhilarating and motivating and so much fun! You can check out all of the contest entries on the Fabric Community site.

We have officially crowned the newest Power BI DataViz World Champion. Congratulations to Paulo Grijo on your World Championship win! We’d also like to recognize the other finalists who are champions in their own right. Congratulations to Aanor, Daniel, and Yasuteru for making it all the way to Vienna with your entries!

The challenge this week is to recreate a single element from the finalists reports.

You can recreate Aanor’s line chart that tells a story, Yasuteru’s beautiful global leaders KPIs, or Daniel’s gorgeous map! Choose your own chocolate or coffee adventure!

Requirements

Build this report using the starter .pbix file. If you want to source the data yourself, you can find info on the data tab.

Build and share either:

  • Aanor’s line chart
  • Yasuteru’s KPIs
  • Daniel’s map

Make the challenge your own – use your own color palette and as always, ensure your viz is accessible!

Dataset

Download the starter file. Details on sources can be found in the file.
