Introduction
To ensure that a dashboard you have built is running optimally prior to being released to your users, run a performance check on the dashboard and all queries.
The dashboard inspector 2.0 identifies different types of bottlenecks, such as slow queries and networks, and provides recommendations to improve the performance. It is also a great way of reviewing if any bindings you have used in queries are working as expected.
Requirements
- For this challenge we are going to create a dashboard using a template. From the Analytics home page navigate to the create button and then dashboard from template. I would recommend the Metrics Trend or Table Expansion for this challenge.
- The template set up will ask you to select an existing dataset – use one from a previous challenge you have completed (the Week 23 Dataset would work as there are opportunity values). Once you have run through the set-up of the dashboard, create a few more queries to include on the dashboard:
- Include a query which will allow you to change the grouping of the dimension in a single chart by using an interaction.
- Clone a few of the existing queries and use in different widgets.
- Preview the dashboard and navigate to dashboard inspector.
- Review any warnings or errors and make changes as recommended. There may only be a few warnings or errors, so try and force an error within a query (ie. delete a group by statement) to then view this via the dashboard inspector.
- View more details of your query which includes the interaction to check the correct dimensions are being displayed as you make different selections.
The dashboard inspector will look similar to the image below, with the first image showing the performance warnings, and the second showing the details of how an interaction is working within a query.
