2025 Week 47 | Power BI: Join a(nother) QuickViz Challenge

Introduction

This week we’re partnering with the Microsoft Fabric Community team to bring you a set of challenges that are taking place over the next month as a part of Fabric Data Days.

Each week, they post a new mini-challenge, aimed at anyone looking to practice dataviz skills, explore new visuals, and engage with the Fabric community – all without committing to a full report.

This week we’re looking at their Week 2 challenge, called Time traveler. The assignment is to create a line chart that tells a compelling story of change over time. Play with colors, formatting, and annotations to highlight trends and bring your insights to life.

All QuickViz challenges can be found on the Fabric Community site.

The premise of the challenges is simple – build a single visual, post it to the community, and then take some time to vote on the others that you like. Entries with the highest number of votes win!

Here’s a sampling of some of the entries!

Requirements

  1. Use the data from the sample report or import your own!
  2. Build a line chart!
  3. Upload your .pbix to the community.
  4. Watch the votes come pouring in!
As always, ensure your viz uses accessible colors, alt text, and tab order (if there’s more than one visual.

Dataset

Data for this challenge is open. You can use your own, or download the sample file from: Time traveler | Sample file – Microsoft Fabric Community

I simply used the enter data feature in Power Query and added a small dataset that I generated with ChatGPT. Use whatever you want – this is meant to be fun!
