#WOW2024 | WEEK 37 | What medals did each country win each day?

Introduction

We’re going back to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this week. I loved them and built my own version of the medal table that I’d been looking at constantly throughout the 2 weeks based off of the BBC (UK) mobile app. I added the ability to click and see what medals were won each day by country. Since we’ve already had a challenge that builds out the medal table, I thought it would be fun to recreate the daily medal ‘unit chart’ I built.

Requirements

  • Dashboard 1000 x 800
  • Create a unit chart that displays each medal won per day by country
  • All days should display for every country, even if the country hasn’t won medals on that day.
  • The ‘medals’ should be ordered each day so bronze medals listed first/at the top, then silver, then gold
  • Each ‘medal’ is coloured based on it’s type and depicts an icon related to the event
  • The total number of medals won each day should be depicted at the bottom.
  • The vertical axis should not alter as the countries change (the USA has the most number of medals in a single day, so use this as a guide)
  • Match tooltips

This challenge uses a custom curated data set, and a set of images sourced from iconsdb.com and iconshock.com. The data and images are available from here.
