2025 Week 53 | Sigma : Can you build a pareto chart?

Introduction

Welcome to the final week of 2025!

Since it’s a holiday week, we’re keeping things simple with a classic but powerful visualization: the Pareto chart. Your challenge this week is to build a Pareto chart in Sigma that highlights which issue categories contribute the most to overall incident reports. By combining a sorted bar chart with a cumulative percentage line, you’ll surface the key drivers behind a metric and quickly identify where the biggest impact is coming from.

By the end of this challenge, you’ll have a reusable pattern you can apply to real-world analyses when you need to prioritize the “vital few” over the “trivial many.”

Good luck!

Jess

Requirements

  • Hidden Data Page:
    • Table element sourced from: Workspaces / Workout Wednesday / 2025 / 2025W53 / Incident Reports 2024
      • Create a new column to pull the month name from the date field
  • Main Page:
    • Add a side panel with a report title and icon
      • Include at least 3 filters for the dataset including the month field you created on the hidden data page
    • Add a combo chart visualization sourced from your hidden table element
      • The field that we are interested in grouping by is “issue_category” as we are curious which issues are driving the most incident reports
      • The combo should contain the count of incidents as a bar sorted in descending order and the cumulative % of total incidents as a line on a secondary y-axis (hint: cumulativesum() is a native formula in Sigma)
      • Add a faint, dotted reference line to flag 80% of total incidents on the visual
  • Extra Credit:
    • Give the report a branded theme and add any additional tiles that would be helpful for the analysis
