Introduction
We’re going to try something a little different this week. We’re going to make a viz/dashboard without a dataset. Having just come from my daughter’s Christmas show this evening, and thinking I wanted to focus on container/dashboard formatting but keep it simple, I decided to build, then decorate a Christmas tree. So, that’s what we’ll build.
Requirements
- Dashboard size: 1000 x 1200
- NO FLOATING CONTAINERS
- I used 9 worksheets (Hint: save yourself some effort, think ahead, and get all the formatting right on the first ornament sheet).
- If you like fewer ornaments on your tree, feel free to just do ornaments where there are 3,5,7, and 9 (but keep the same number of tree levels).
- For simplicity of size adjustment, I used a parameter so I could adjust the size for all sheets from the dashboard
- No fixed heights on the sheets (use your containers appropriately)
- There should only be one Blank on the dashboard, the trunk.
- Green (#3e8439) and Brown (#884e1c)
- Don’t forget to turn your tooltips off
Dataset
There is no dataset this week, but Tableau makes you use a data source, so I just used Superstore.
You can download the ornament and star shapes here. You’ll need to put them in your Tableau Repository/shapes folder.
