2023 Week 50 | Power BI: Clippy’s Random Gift Generator

Introduction

Happy holidays to everyone who celebrates! Join us this week to get some help shopping for your friends and family, using a dataset you provide and a random number generator in Power Query.

If Clippy can’t pick a gift, no one can! Have fun and create the random gift generator in whatever way you see fit!

Requirements

   Get or Enter Data

  1. I entered 5 rows of data – feel free to enter data or get data from a real gift guide!
  2. In Power Query, create a table that contains three columns.
    • a list of numbers between 1 and 100 (we’ll use this in the slicer)
    •  a random number between 1 and 5
    • the gift options (merged from the initial 5 rows of data)

   Create your visuals

  1.  Add a slicer that contains the list of numbers
    •  change the settings to greater than or equal to (as opposed to between)
  2. Add a card visual to display the gift options
  3. Create your other visuals and have fun!
  4. As always, ensure that all visuals meet the minimum standards of having alt text, that the tab order in your report makes sense, and that your color choices meet the minimum standards. 

Dataset

Create your own dataset this week simply, by using the Enter Data button, or, bring in real data from any source you see fit!
